The Marqués de Velilla Winery (Grandes Bodegas, S.L.) is the owner of over 800 hectares of Mediterranean woodland. This is where our vineyards and the winery’s head office in our emblematic company building, are found.
Marqués de Velilla is located on harsh and rugged terrain close to the River Duero which, with its extreme and contrasting climate, produces powerful and complex wines which have inimitable character and personality. . Situated towards the top of the estate’s hill, the winery displays an original architectural style, a mix of old Castilian and colonial, which blends in perfectly with the surrounding landscape.
Rising up through the vines, pine trees, holm oaks and junipers of the estate is the majestic old Doncel de Mataperras, a centuries-old pine tree that has come through centuries of history and is now the symbol of our winery.
Our winery has invested in the latest technology and equipment to enable us to apply appropriate techniques at each stage of the process. Our aim is to combine the savoir-faire we have inherited from traditional practices with the efficiency of our modern wine-making tools and thereby develop a different wine-making approach which allows us to adapt to the vintage and to the type of wine we aim to produce in each sub-plot. Therefore, depending on the year and the type of wine that is to be made, we modify the production so as to find the most suitable selection.
